Dennis Lin is a Canadian-born artist of Taiwanese descent whose work engages themes of pattern, material nostalgia, and belonging. He has developed his practice through making processes that filter his technical skill into old-industry systems that have been trialed, stretched, and honed over a 20+ year long career. Drawing inspiration from the stratified nature of sedimentary layers, he uses this imagery as a metaphor for existence and the passage of time. His work unravels the literal and metaphorical layers of history, choices, and journeys, encapsulated and solidified in the materials he uses. He collects materials like wood, metal, and stone, often salvaging them from destined obscurity or decay. Through his practice, he documents the journey of these materials, embracing the natural states of settling and erosion.

Dennis’ practice is split between two studios. The entire Kimberley, Ontario studio is off grid - powered by a large battery bank and maintained through approximately 10kW of solar panels. His Toronto studio at 47 Milky Way serves as a hub for experimentation, project fabrication, and display.
